ACCESSORY REPORT

Handbags are smaller, footwear is bolder and believe it or not pendants are dropping longer.

A few years back I went through designer handbag withdrawal when the strap on my Louie broke after several years of wear. What I missed most was the prestige that I thought the bag had brought me. That was then. This is now. With our day to day accomplishments in a challenging world I, like most Americans, have grown up. We are more confident and no longer find a need for a logo emblazoned across an accessory to validate us. Don't get me wrong, I still love high-end bags for their quality and functionality. I also enjoy wearing moderately price bags that compliment my look. With that being said, some of the hottest bags on the runway are medium size frame and doctors handbags. Popular styles feature chain link details and an additional cross body strap. Also popular are elongated clutches in bright colors and small evening purses that celebrities sport on the red carpet. One of my favorite looks

is the denim destruction (torn) handbag that works back to your jean collection. I've also noticed fashions that are paired with handbags and shoes in tonal shades. For example a yellow dress paired with a mustard bag or a dove gray design with charcoal colored accessories. This is a fresh take on the monochromatic look.

PEEK- A- BOO

For spring, open-toe booties are all the rage and are often worn with pants or paired with short, full shirts. Popular looks range from lace-ups to footwear with exposed zipper details. The caged sandal and platform heel are also on trend. However, for day to day activities my choice would be the modified gladiator. Also popular is the thong sandal that can be dressed up or down. A runway resort look is the pairing of a leather thong sandal with a suit in a coordinating color. It worked because the pant was palazzo-like. It draped. Trend to watch: footwear with a bow detail.
