WESTLAKE HS DANCE TEAM WINS BIG AT LINE BATTLE The Westlake High School Dance Team won 7
out of 9 awards at the Annual Battle of the Dance Line held on November
20 at the Georgia World Congress Center. Twenty-four Atlanta area schools
competed in the event. Undaunted, the Westlake Dance team, also known
a Lion's MANE Attraction (LMA), proved they were center stage worthy by
winning awards in showmanship, creativity, technique, costume, dance,
and stands, which placed them at 1st place overall. In addition to receiving
a trophy, senior and Captain Shanice Reeves won a $1,000 scholarship for
college from
Dazz with Jazz Studio, sponsor of Battle of the
Dance Line competition.
In its second year of operation, the Westlake Dance Team is making a mark
on Atlanta. The troupe is comprised of 25 students with a 3.0 GPA who
range from 14-18 years of age. " We are lucky to have a talented
group of dedicated dancers whose parents are highly supportive of our
program. Support from parents and school administrators has been the key
to our success," says Rae Ransom Coleman, Westlake Dance Department
Director and Dance Team Coach.
